LEGACY POWER

A white woman with brown curly hair in a bob is wearing a pale pink suit, a white t-shirt and a large silver circle necklace. She stands in front of a black wall with gold picture frames.

Voice. Presence. Power.
Transformation.

Building a momentum of change through
personal power and human centred leadership. Creating positive growth through your expertise, experience and wisdom.

You’re ready to build your legacy. You’re ready to ditch all the personas you’ve had to create through the years. In some places you felt like you had to be easygoing in order to succeed. In other places you had to ignore jokes at your own expense, or patronizing advice from people who didn’t value the same things as you.

You’ve always wondered what it would look like if you could talk about the things that are important to you, instead of reserving the “real” you for a select group. You want to do things the way you want to do them, not because it fits the status quo, or “the way it’s always been”.

To get where you are wasn’t easy. You’ve learned a lot, and put up with a lot.) Things aren’t the same as they used to be, but there’s still change to be had.

But now, the difference is you have power. And have you ever earned it. You’re ready to spearhead the change.

Maybe you’re interested in making sure your last decade or 2 of work is meaningful, important, people centred. Maybe you want to challenge the “way it’s always been”, and make worthwhile changes to the culture. Maybe you want to be a figurehead.

Maybe the wheels are already in motion, and you want to ensure you’ve got support that focuses on your tranformation.

To leave behind a powerful legacy.

That’s why you’re here.

Never again

You know those situations where you got stuck doing something shitty? Maybe you agreed to it without knowing what it was, maybe somebody sprung something on you last minute, or maybe you couldn’t react in the way that you wanted because it wouldn’t have been “professional”.

There’s a certain point in your life when you’re just done. When you’re no longer available for the bullshit. For the systems designed neither by you or for you, but that you’re expected to work within. For the attitudes and “way it’s always been” and “it’s just business, not personal” and the variety of masks and professional personas you’ve had to wear to get ahead. The comments you ignored, the opportunities where you were overlooked, the “colleagues” who didn’t take you seriously.

You’re done.

There comes a tipping point. Sometimes it’s the straw that broke the camel’s back. Sometimes it’s a slow burn. But at some point you realize that you simply have no more fucks to give and you’re stepping into the full possibility of what you want.

There’s so much magic in that moment. It summons change.

A smiling image of Jerico Mandybur, a nonbinary person with long, brown curly hair.

“Megan allowed me to emphasize my strengths and lean into my uniqueness, while providing a solid foundation of tools and advice that helped me *feel* my best.

I would 100% recommend working with Megan to anyone who needs guidance around visibility, confidence, and speaking in any context. Especially if they desire to find their own unique way of showing up, being in, and moving through the world. She's a magician!"

Release from judgement.

I remember the day I realized that I didn’t want to have 7 different public facing personas anymore.

It was back when I was trying to figure out if I could have tarot readings be under the umbrella of ubu skills.

What if people thought I was flaky? Woo woo? Or worse, a charlatan?

At that point I had 2 Instagram accounts - one for music and one for speaking coaching. I didn’t want my speaking clients to know about my music account - it was less polished, more raw, lots of swearing. (Feels hilarious to think about now.)

And I didn’t share my speaking coaching business with my music folks. I was trying to avoid the “who does she think she is?” judgements.

And I didn’t know what to do with LinkedIn. So I did nothing.

And one day I just didn’t care anymore.

Not about the work. Not about the music.

Not about tarot. Not about the important stuff.

I just didn’t care about the judgement.

And that was my magic moment that summoned change.

In tarot, we’re often aiming for The Star card. When we can be finally free of the pretense, the fitting in to somebody else’s narrative, the idea that we’ll agree to anything other than our true selves.

This stuff takes time.

But like all things, it didn’t happen overnight.

It was a combination of a series of experiences, age, some life changing personal work and some high stakes decisions I’d have to make about how I was going to move forward.

I’ve always been rebellious. I’ve never liked people telling me what to do or trying to limit me to some kind of paradigm. I’d push back hard on any labels anybody might want to put on me.

And you probably know that what you want to do is going to take time, too.

When we’re in a transition, creating expansion and making room for bigger opportunities, there’s a sequence that happens. 1. Resistance 2. Panic 3. Surrender 4. Curiosity 5. Shedding 6. Welcoming.

Slowly allowing the full you to release all of the layers of pretense, protection, fitting in. Slowly building your capacity for resilience, for releasing the fear of judgement, for speaking about what’s important and meaningful. For a resurrection.

My Philosophy

Here’s what I’ve come to believe. If we want to move away from an emotionless, unfair, inequitable, profit-first grind culture that ultimately benefits no-one, the only way forward is self acceptance, self worth and a capacity for a much more expansive visibility. Combine that metamorphosis with training and coaching, (and time), and you’ll create substantial, disruptive change that benefits you in the moment, and all the others coming up behind you. That’s the legacy.

We can’t lead the way out while continuing to embrace a culture that doesn’t want change.

What does this look like? Creativity. Play. Nervous system awareness and regulation. Curiosity. “Youthfulness”. Intuition. Dedication to growth. Dedication to values. Turning down stuff that won’t make you feel good.

And a good shake of risk.

My hill that I will die on: Who you are is the best person to be.

Who is that?

That’s exactly what we aim to find out. I don’t know about you, but I’m constantly learning things about myself, deepening my understanding of who I am and what I care about (and what I don’t care about).

Here are some things that might be true about you:

  • you’re financially comfortable (and probably worked damn hard to get there)

  • you’re fairly self aware (thanks, therapy and other modes like spirituality/self care/help)

  • you have a curious heart

  • you have a desire for change or adventure and a willingness to grow

  • you’re interested in new ideas

  • you’re dedicated to personal growth

  • you lead with values

  • you know that one of the secrets of life is to make a difference

And if some of those things aren’t true for you, yet, you probably want them to be.

The ongoing effects of patriarchy

I could write out a thousand reasons why you’ve had to jump through hoops, say yes to things you wanted to say no to, abandon your true heart… but we all know what they are and we’re sick of it.

If you’re here, you may have worked with me before, or you’re at least fairly familiar with my values.

And if not, let me be explicit: I am a feminist who embraces intersectionality, including anti-racism practise. I believe that liberation work is everyone’s responsibility. Not only am I 2SLGBTQIA+ positive, but I’m also queer (which isn’t always evident as I’m married to a man). I have an awareness, as well as training, in how to recognize and how to be careful with other peoples’ trauma. (But I’m not a mental health professional, so that work needs to be supported by somebody who is.)

I want to work with people who also embrace those values, or who are aiming to unlearn some of their conditioning (as I continually do).

I make a lot of mistakes. I give myself grace for them, which allows me to give other folks a lot of grace, and I expect the same from folks I work with.

“I came to [Megan] to improve my larger venue public speaking skills. What I didn’t realize is how much bigger the impact would be. Not only am I more confident in public speaking, my smaller everyday presentations and communication have also been enhanced. I am a stronger more impactful speaker in all aspects of life (big & small).”

Welcome to Legacy Power

The world needs your magic.

This way of working together is about deep and meaningful change. For yourself on the inside and for the world on the outside. It’s about putting yourself out there in ways you haven’t before. It’s about seeking opportunities for expansive visibility, like tv spots, giving keynote speeches, speaking up about what’s lacking in your industry, embracing your expert voice and showing the world a different way of doing things.

This is a commitment. This kind of work takes time. It’s an investment in your legacy.

Book in as many calls as you’d like up to a suggested maximum of 4/month (and if you need more, we can make adjustments) and calls can be different lengths (that means we can work for 2 or 3 consecutive hours if we need to). This open-ended structure allows for both of us to take space, holidays, etc. without feeling pressure to use every facet available to you.

Work can include: co-writing speeches, performance practice calls (potentially in-person if you’re Kingston, Ontario or surrounding), coaching calls, strategic and brainstorming calls, co-crafting press releases or pitch emails, check ins, shadow work calls, tarot readings, and talking things out.

Over the course of our time together, we’ll create paths to increase your visibility in a strategic way. (No more guesting on every single podcast that will have you. That’s a waste of your time and energy.) We’ll lean into the core of what change you want to see and what your valuable and important message is.

We’ll craft talks that foster transformation, and rehearse enough that you feel confident in your body and in your delivery and that your message will have impact.

We’ll look for best-fit media opportunities and create thoughtful pitches.

We’ll keep digging in when resistance comes up to give some sunlight to the sticky places in your shadow (subconscious) that keep telling you no when you want to say yes.

We’ll find fun in this powerful work and bring others up with us as we go.

We’ll stay committed to equity, anti-racism, feminism and justice. We’re not stepping over anybody.

(Please note: I help you with creation, but I don’t pitch, email or call on your behalf. Also note that most of the work we do will be together, not me solo.)

Hi! I’m Megan.

I’m a speaking, visibility and confidence coach and speech director for women, non-binary and queer leaders.

I help you find the places you’ve painted yourself into a corner with professional personas and systems that don’t work for you so you can slowly evolve into doing deeply authentic and meaningful work.

So you can leave behind a powerful legacy.

Why me?

I have an interesting and eclectic background with a multi-passionate history in a wide variety of areas. I have managed large scale events, have been featured in the media numerous times, and have had opportunities to work with folks in the media, the arts, politicians and leaders in upper level roles who are highly visible.

Here’s some stuff you might or might not know:

  • I was an apprentice to Naomi Campbell (formerly the Artistic Director of Toronto’s Luminato, a multi-million dollar annual arts festival), who then made me assistant producer to multiple theatre companies in the early aughts in Toronto. We wrote press releases, created press packages, pitched to festivals around the world, which included bringing a show to the world renowned Festival Fringe in Edinburgh, Scotland.

  • I stage managed and helped create the back end and mechanics for Making Room, a 30,000 square foot, multi-installation, large-scale art show curated by Heather Nicol. This ambitious project was a monumental success, and showcased work from some of the most exciting artists from Canada and beyond.

  • I’m a professional musician with 5 (working on my 6th) recordings of original music. I’ve toured from coast to coast in Canada and into the United States. I’ve done it all independently - booked the tours myself, managed the publicity, performed in large cities and small towns, project managed the recording processes, hired (and fired) folks along the way. I’ve been on national television and radio, been featured on the front page of newspapers, opened or played with world renowned music artists, negotiated and advocated for better contracts for me and my band, managed merchandising and sales. (I still do that stuff, too.)

  • I’m the speaker advisor for the TEDxQueensU where I train their team to coach speakers, and have coached their highest profile speakers every year since 2020. (Ask me if you’d like to see some of the talks.)

  • I founded a theatre company, Medusa Productions, where I produced my own and other peoples’ plays, including Bessie’s Mother (my own one-woman show, funded by grants), Neuroses (a play co-written with Sean MacMahon), Spunked Up a Wall and The Other Annie, ran an ongoing variety event called myWORD and put together dozens and dozens of shows and events.

  • I had the incredible opportunity of starting an artistic space from the ground up in a 10,000 square foot empty floor in a commercial building at King and Bathurst in Toronto. The Creative Group ran for about 2 years (until the building had interest from a new client), and is still missed in artistic circles. I organized the cleaning of the space, making it safe, building sprung dance floors for studios, created a collective agreement, found 12 artists or arts groups to join the collective and managed the entire operation including renting it for performances and putting on a variety of events.

  • I have a classical theatre background (trained at the Metropolitan Toronto University), over 30 years of performance on stages across Canada and the US as an actor or musician, coaching training from the Institute for Equity Centred Coaching (and am a member of the IECC Exchange - a professional association for folks committed to justice, equity, diversity and inclusion), have taken several workshops on mindset and nervous system work, and have become a known expert for my philosophy and execution of shadow work.

Legacy Power - the quick overview

The goal of our work together is to get you and your vision in front of significantly more people through speeches and keynotes, media opportunities, pitch opportunities and whatever places you want to be.

  • We aim for up to 4 calls per month (length of calls are up to you: quick check ins or longer, to do intense work like rehearsals and writing)

  • We create a needs assessment and goals overview, we use shadow work to see where some blocks have formed. You’ll commit to working through the blocks, and we keep revisiting this stuff so it remains up to date and intentional

  • You’ll have a private web page on my site where everything you need is available to you (including booking links) and we’ll stay on track with shared google docs and spreadsheets that track your momentum as well as your contacts and pitches

  • We use my signature, step by step, systematic approach to speaking, visibility and confidence to give you physical presence, a strong voice and the ability to speak confidently by: Standing (Physical Presence) through Alexander Technique; Breathing (Controlled and Deep) to maintain calm and focus and support a strong voice; Speaking (Optimum Pitch) to engage and enhance your communication; Reading (Text Mapping) to allow you to deliver a compelling and magnetic speech, video or presentation.

The Extras

  • You have access to all of the different resources and courses I offer (The Talk Maker course, tarot readings, workbooks and worksheets, Digging Up Your Roots tarot and shadow work course, speaking training videos). I’ll guide you on which program to dive in to so you don’t have to dig through the entire canon of choices.

  • Homework - occasional guided shadow questions for journaling to help you integrate this stuff into your life, and to really get deep with yourself about what holds you back. We’ll usually detail action steps at the end of each session for you to work on before we next meet.

  • Essential Public Speaking Notes Workbook - an 18-page guide that’s jam-packed with tips and tricks and helpful exercises to keep you prepared with a full set of tools.

  • Pre-recorded Controlled Breathing and Mind Focusing exercises. You will be able to access these exercises from your computer or your phone and dial them up whenever you need to get calm fast. These are going to be useful in so many ways beyond your current goals. Uncomfortable conversations, insomnia, job interviews, surprise anxiety…

  • You’ll be able to connect with me during the periods between our sessions using Voxer (asynchronous voice notes) or email if you prefer.

“Thank you for all you have taught me these last few sessions. There is so much to learn, but I feel like I’m on such a great path. You have so much expertise to offer, with so many practical techniques to help take my public speaking and presentation skills to the next level. You are truly an amazing coach!”
Nicole, Executive Director, Finance

I learned so much in my session with Megan. There are tools and practices that I’ve come back to over and over to help me get centred before I do any public speaking. I was also so thankful for the ways she made me feel so comfortable in the session, being so present and bringing such great energy to it. Megan’s the best!
Christine Bougie, Musician

"I had no idea how powerful the physical exercises would be on my psychological state when speaking. I’ve gained useful tools and have exercises to practice to continue my journey to becoming a confident and assertive speaker."
