CALM YOUR NERVES

HOW TO CONTROL YOUR SPEAKING ANXIETY

You’re standing in front of the group. You’ve prepared for your presentation. You did careful research, spent many overtime hours getting your wording just right. You’re nervous, but you’re well prepared so you figure you’ll be ok.

You begin to speak, and one of your colleagues interrupts you. The panic sinks in. Your hands start to shake. You blush. Your mouth goes dry. You speak too fast. You’ve got cold sweats, can’t make eye contact, and suddenly your voice becomes an inaudible squeak. You’re reduced to a frenzy of nerves and all of your prep is down the drain from your anxiety.

AND THIS ISN’T THE FIRST TIME.

Every instance where you’ve tried to get ahead, your inability to speak well destroys your chances, and leaves you feeling humiliated. When you get up in front of others, your stomach turns cold and you lose your ability to focus or be coherent. Sometimes you can’t even remember speaking at all.

You avoid speaking because you’re afraid of looking stupid and unprofessional. Even worse, you’ve done so much work over the last several years to build your self esteem, only to see it plummet when you freeze up and can’t perform. It’s a vicious circle.

You come up with excuses about how this plateau in your life is okay. You convince yourself that staying in the same place isn’t so bad; it doesn’t matter if your work goes unnoticed or unappreciated; it’s fine.

But the truth is, deep down, it isn’t fine.

YOU’RE SO TIRED OF THIS.

It’s frustrating to work incredibly hard only to have it slip away because you can’t get past your anxiety around speaking. You’ve almost given up believing that any of this can change.

IMAGINE IF THERE WERE A SIMPLE WAY TO GET PAST THIS.

You wake up the morning of your presentation a little bit nervous, but nothing that you can’t control. You find yourself looking forward to sharing your hard work. You know that your hours of research and rehearsal have got you covered, and you’re ready to speak.

YOU’VE GOT THIS.

When it’s your turn, you sense some butterflies in your stomach, but take a deep breath and step forward. You hold up your notes with a steady hand and remember to take a drink of water. As you begin to speak, you feel your voice slightly waiver, but quickly you’re back on track. You can hear yourself sounding confident, even and secure as you look your colleagues directly in the eye.

Part way through, you skip a paragraph by accident. Instead of unraveling, you calmly readjust and continue, unphased, to deliver an exceptional presentation to your group.

YOU NAILED IT!

Later in the day, your boss stops by to deliver some praise.

This positive feedback boosts the confidence you’ve been experiencing. Finally, your hard work is paying off and you’re no longer held back by anxiety and fear. In fact, you find that you’re speaking up more in general. The other day, in the middle of answering a question, that guy who always interrupts you started in again. Instead of sinking back into your chair and letting him take over, you used a strong voice to ask him to stop interrupting. And he did!

You’ve known for so long that you have the credentials and experience for a more senior role, but you’d always hesitated because of your public speaking fears. What if nobody would take you seriously?

You suddenly realize: this is no longer a problem. (What a relief!)

YOU KNOW YOU HAVE A SET OF SYSTEMS AND TOOLS TO USE AND YOU KNOW YOU CAN SPEAK TO A GROUP OF FIVE OR A GROUP OF FIVE HUNDRED.

DO ANY OF THESE SOUND FAMILIAR?

  • When you have to speak in front of others, whether at work or a conference, your voice quivers or changes pitch, your knees or your hands shake, your mouth gets dry, you can’t think clearly, you blush easily....

  • You’ve had to turn down opportunities, or you don’t engage with possibilities because you’re too ashamed of what happens when you have to speak.

  • You talk yourself into keeping things the same so that you don’t have to worry about speaking.

  • You’ve had an anxiety attack related to public speaking.

  • You’re convinced that you are not and will never be good at giving speeches.

I’m a public speaking coach for women with speaking anxiety. You’re tired of avoiding opportunities because you’re afraid you might sound stupid or unprofessional. I help you control your nerves to confidently deliver a speech, present at a work meeting, or be assertive in a difficult situation.

THIS SIMPLE APPROACH WILL HELP YOU TO:

✔ Quickly stop your shaking hands, your blushing, your cold sweats, your brain fuzz through a system that is scientifically proven to work.

✔ Think clearly while speaking to 5 people or 500 hundred people (or 5,000 people!)

✔ Understand why you experience all of these symptoms and uncover stress triggers you didn’t realize you had.

✔ Confidently accept new offers that come your way.

✔ Enjoy the incredible freedom of being able to assert yourself, comfortably present at work meetings, or actually give speeches in front of large groups.

THIS OFFER INCLUDES:

ONE // THE STRESS RESPONSE SURVEY

Did you know that blushing is part of the fight/flight/freeze stress response? We’re going to talk about that! The first step to being able to stay calm is to understand what is causing your anxiety. The relatable examples in this survey will allow you to easily understand where your stress around public speaking comes from and how it shows up for you.

In this 60 minute Zoom session, we will dig in to the difficulties outlined from your survey answers and find solutions for each one. I will guide you through some Controlled Breathing and Mind Focusing Exercises that you’ll be able to use anywhere, anytime to calm down when you are feeling overloaded. We will talk about the proven science behind these systems and how you will be able to finally deliver your presentations confidently, without panic.

We will identify 1 or 2 situations in your current schedule where you can put this new work into practise and you’ll learn how to document your progress in your Reflection Journal pages. You are going to learn how to do something you never thought possible!

THREE // THE SUMMARY CALL

2-3 weeks later, we will check in together again. You’ll share your Reflection Journal Pages with me and we’ll make sure you’re on the right track.
